Ava DuVernay and Autumn Riley

Ava DuVernay, born August 24, 1972 in Long Beach California. DuVernay was introduced to art from the aunt Denise. The aunt who was a night shift nurse, let her study literature for art as well as theater in the daylight. DuVernay was captivated by the 1961 movie West Side Story after her aunt recommended her to DuVernay. DuVernay discovered by watching her mother's model of how art could serve as an effective vehicle for social activism. The summers she spent in Selma, Alabama would inspire her later to make the film about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. DuVernay graduated from Saint Joseph High School Lakewood California, in 1990. Following graduation, DuVernay enrolled in the University of California Los Angeles and graduated with degrees in English as well as African American study. DuVernay began producing television news at the age of an elementary school student. As an intern, she worked for CBS News at the time of O.J. Simpson trial. DuVernay recalled being asked to look over the rubbish in the house of one of the jury. DuVernay was dissatisfied with her journalism tasks and decided to switch over to the public relations industry. DuVernay was employed by a tiny studio as a junior publicist immediately after graduation. Her own Public Relations company, The DuVernay Agency was established in 1999. Additionally, she started a variety of lifestyle and promotions networks like Urban Beauty Collective. Urban Eye, HelloBeautiful, and Urban Thought Collective.
