Alexandra Rose Raisman Bio

Alexandra Rose Raisman, born May 25 1994 born on May 25, 1994, is an American retired gymnast who was an artistic. She has also been a two-time Olympian. She was captain of the 2012 "Fierce Five" and the"Fierce Five" in 2016 "Final Five," U.S. women’s Olympic gymnastics team. She took home a gold team medal during the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Gabby Douglas and Raisman are the only Americans who have won back-to-back gold medals at this competition. Raisman also took home silver medals for individual all-around and for floor exercise. Raisman was awarded silver medals in the individual all-around, as well as for the floor exercise. She is also a two time national champion in floor exercises (2012 and 2015), and the 2012 champion of the national championship in balance beam. She also is five times a national champion in all-around at national championships (silver and bronze in 2010 2011 and 2012 and). She was inducted into the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 2013. Raisman was the daughter of Lynn Faber and was a former high school gymnast and Rick Raisman, on May 25 1994 in Needham. She has three younger sisters: Madison, Chloe, and Brett. Raisman is Jewish and states that "I really enjoy having the opportunity to not only represent the U.S.A but as well the Jewish Community everywhere." "Raisman started gymnastics when she was 18 months old. She attributes her early enthusiasm for gymnastics to the "Magnificent Seven", the gold-medal-winning U.S. women's team at the 1996 Summer Olympics, whose performances she was able to watch on VHS.She participated in Exxcel Gymnastics and Climbing through Level 8 when she was transferred to Brestyan's American Gymnastics Club under coaches Mihai and Silvia Brestyan. Raisman was a graduate of Needham High School in 2012 after having completed her senior year online courses while training to compete in the Olympics.
